RCB wins WPL 2024

RCB are the champions of WPL 2024:

BANGALORE CLAIM THE 2024 WOMEN’S T20 LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP! Initially pegged as star-studded favorites to clinch the inaugural title, Bangalore faced setbacks before roaring back triumphantly just a year later. Their remarkable resurgence culminated in a sensational display in the final matches, fully earning their championship status.

While Bangalore’s victory is commendable, it’s important to acknowledge Delhi’s exceptional performance throughout the season, even though they couldn’t maintain their momentum in the crucial decider.

After losing the toss, Smriti Mandhana’s team found themselves bowling first, unable to secure early breakthroughs. Renuka Singh’s lackluster tournament continued as runs were conceded rapidly until Sophie Molineux intervened, dismissing Shafali Verma and claiming two more wickets in the same over.

Bangalore took control from there, with their spinners proving pivotal, especially Shreyanka Patil who secured a four-wicket haul. Restricting the opposition to 114 runs, Bangalore’s batting duo of Smriti and Sophie Devine cautiously started their innings.

Devine showcased aggression, finding the boundary regularly before her dismissal. Ellyse Perry then steadied the ship with a composed innings, ensuring Bangalore’s victory alongside Richa Ghosh, who added dynamism to the chase.

Delhi will be disappointed with their loss, which seemed more influenced by the mental aspect of the game rather than the players’ abilities. Despite opting to bat first and making a strong start at 64/0, they succumbed to pressure after an over that saw Shafali Verma’s dismissal followed by questionable shots from Jemimah Rodrigues and Alice Capsey.

Despite Meg Lanning’s efforts to stabilize the innings, Delhi couldn’t recover fully and ended with just over 110 runs, relying on crucial runs from the lower order. While their bowling put up a decent effort, they would have preferred more wickets upfront. Unlike Bangalore, Delhi relied more on pace bowlers, and their spinners couldn’t match the effectiveness of their opponents. This loss marks another disappointment for Meg Lanning and her team, but they will aim to come back stronger next season.

This is the moment fans have eagerly awaited, after enduring countless trials, triumphs, and finally, ecstasy as RCB players hoist the trophy. Fireworks illuminate the sky while confetti blankets the ground, creating an unforgettable spectacle in Delhi.

The season has undoubtedly propelled the WPL to new heights, culminating in Mandhana’s team’s historic triumph at the Kotla, witnessed by a fervent crowd. As celebrations erupt on the field, one can only envision the jubilation reverberating throughout Bengaluru.
